Kun Agüero Confirms Lionel Messi Might Try to Play for Newells Old Boys in Argentina

Manchester City Legend Hints at Messi's Potential Return to Boyhood Club

Aguero's Statement Sparks Speculation About Messi's Next Move

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Former Manchester City striker Sergio "Kun" Agüero has fueled speculation about Lionel Messi's next career move, suggesting that the Argentine superstar may consider returning to his boyhood club, Newells Old Boys, in the near future.

During an interview with ESPN Argentina, Agüero hinted that Messi could be tempted by a move back to Argentina, where he began his professional career with Newells Old Boys at the age of 17. The journalist Sebastian Vignolo had surmised that Messi could possibly play for the Rosario-based club next season, and Agüero did not dismiss the possibility.

"I think Leo (Messi) is going to try to play for Newells," Agüero said. "He always had the dream of playing for Newells, but he wanted to do it in a moment where the club was competitive."

Messi's current contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the season, and he has yet to decide on his future. Newells Old Boys, where Messi spent five seasons as a youth player, has been linked with a move for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner in recent months.

Aguero's comments have added further fuel to the rumor mill surrounding Messi's next destination. The 36-year-old has been linked with a move to Inter Miami in the MLS, as well as a return to his former club Barcelona. However, Agüero's suggestion that Newells Old Boys could be an option suggests that Messi may be considering a move closer to home.

Newells Old Boys would undoubtedly welcome Messi back with open arms, and the club's president, Ignacio Astore, has stated that they would "do everything possible" to sign him. Whether Messi ultimately decides to return to his boyhood club remains to be seen, but Agüero's comments have certainly raised the possibility.
