Early Life and Military Service
Spencer John Stone was born on August 13, 1992, in Sacramento, California. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2012 and served as a staff sergeant for four years.
Heroic Act
In August 2015, while on a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris, Stone and two friends, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos, confronted a heavily armed gunman who opened fire on the passengers. Stone tackled the gunman, subduing him until French military forces arrived.
Aftermath and Impact
Stone's heroic actions were widely praised, and he became a national hero. He received the Purple Heart and the Airman's Medal for his bravery. He has since become an advocate for victims of violence and a motivational speaker.
Film and Acting
Stone's story was dramatized in the 2018 film "The 15:17 to Paris," in which he was portrayed by himself. He has also guest-starred in several television shows and has written a book about his experiences, "The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes."
