Two Law Enforcement Officers Lose Lives in Shootout

On Sunday, February 12, 2023, Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen was killed in the line of duty after a gunman moved from the backyard into the house where he was located.

The incident occurred around 7:45 pm at a home on Merriman Avenue in Syracuse, New York. Officer Jensen and other officers responded to a call about a domestic dispute.

When they arrived, the suspect, identified as Faisal Ali, 25, opened fire on the officers. Officer Jensen was shot and killed. Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Hoosock was also shot and killed in the exchange of gunfire.

"Deputy Hoosock was a highly respected and experienced law enforcement officer," said Onondaga County Sheriff Eugene Conway. "He served our community with distinction for over 20 years. We are heartbroken by his loss."

Deputy Hoosock is survived by his wife and two children.
